Enactment of the Constitution

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar presented the final draft of the Constitution on November 4, 1948. Following a five-day general debate and a meticulous clause-by-clause review that spanned nearly a year, the Assembly discussed thousands of proposed amendments. The decisive third reading commenced on November 14, 1949, and on November 26, 1949, with 284 members in attendance, the Constitution was formally adopted and signed. This historic adoption not only marked the culmination of exhaustive debates but also provided India with its foundational legal document, featuring a Preamble, 395 Articles, and 8 Schedules.
