Ideal Gas Law

Subject: Chemistry

Book: General Chemistry

The ideal gas law, PV = nRT, combines several empirical gas laws into one expression. It assumes an ideal gas where intermolecular forces and particle volumes are negligible. R is the universal gas constant (0.08206 L·atm·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹ or 8.314 J·mol⁻¹·K⁻¹). Although real gases deviate from this behavior under high pressure or low temperature, the ideal gas law remains a powerful tool for approximate calculations in many conditions.
