Book: Parts of Speech

Interjections are short exclamations that convey strong emotion or surprise. Examples include oh wow ouch and hey. They often stand alone or appear at the beginning of a sentence. Interjections can express joy sorrow excitement anger or disbelief. In writing they are usually followed by punctuation such as an exclamation mark. Though not always grammatically linked to other parts of a sentence interjections add spontaneity and realism to speech and dialogue. Excessive use can seem informal or distracting so moderation is key. Interjections highlight immediate reactions and help capture genuine feelings in everyday conversation or creative works.
